As far as childhoods go mine wasnt all that bad. But honestly it wasn't great either.
My father has/had a drinking problem. It was tough to deal with that.
My mom worked a lot. I think to escape home.
It hasnt been until recently that either of my parents have been forthcoming with the "I Love You's" and either parent was ever very affectionate.
I was never called "Princess" my nick names were "goose. murphy. george."
my dad said my nose looked like Mt. Reba. You get the idea. When I said I wanted to be a fireman I was told girls werent firemen.
So maybe I am bitter. It's not that I forgot what it was like to be a child... in fact I remember very well.

So why can't you be happy for a child that is being able to be a child, instead of wishing they were having as miserable of a childhood as you did?
You have your own life and family now. Don't you want to make things better for them than you had it?
Oh wait...it's not YOUR kids you have issues with, it's everyone else's.
I get it now. Nevermind.
