I remember when we told 5 year old Derek he was going to be a big brother. He did a happy little dance. He went with me and my mom to the first ultrasound at 19 weeks and while the technichian could not confirm she felt she was pretty sure it was a boy. I saw out of the corner of my eye a big smile on Derek's face and a "yes" whispered.
I wont deny I was a bit disappointed I so wanted a girl and I held out hope until the very end. Now I cannot imagine Derek NOT having a brother!
They wrestle, play Star Wars, play Choo Choo, in the sand, in the pool. It's all boy time all the time. I could not be happier.
Derek has always been a big help with Joseph. Not just watching him or taking care of him but standing up for him or explaining to others why he has braces on his leg or a magic glove on his hand. He teaches him things and has learned sign language too.
I am so proud of him. Last night he said "Momma I just cant be good all the time." a little sad, a lot tired but very heartfelt. Joseph had gone naked thru the house and peed in Derek's favorite cardboard box he was making a race car in. Derek was mad and upset and it truly seemed to bother Joseph that he had an accident. He signed that he was sorry but Derek was just plain mad.
To retaluate later in the evening he helped Joseph get into another cardboard box he had been playing in and sort of barracaked the door. We were upset with him for doing this and thats when he said he just could not be good all the time.
