Here's something you might not know.
I have this little word I tell my children...especially the older one.
It's just two letters and its.... NO.
I do not promise him anything because a promise means no matter what and life is uncertain and I cant fail him like that. I never "promise" this treat or that or that I will always pick him up from school or that he can do this or that. It seems it gives him a license to behave however he wishes and still get what he wants because I promised. No way.
He does not go to EVERY birthday party he's invited to, and I dont allow him to double up 2 in one day unless one is family and the other a good friend. Sometimes we'll skip even a family or good friends.
I think he's turning out ok. I am doing the best I know how. I am sure he'll end up in therapy for one thing or another but maybe when he's older and asked what's the best thing your parents ever did for you he might say "they said No"
