This lady came in last night to good ole Sbux and when we asked her how her day was she said just awful. She said she just put gas in her car and it cost her $79.00 to fill it up. I felt bad for her. She said she drives to Sacramento for her job and that putting that much gas was a week worth of groceries for her family. (Side note here.... yes you are going to go and say in your snippy typing ..."Well why was she as Sbux getting coffee if she's having issues paying for gas and groceries" to be fair I tell you she got a tall not a venti and that lady needed it she was about to pass out and we aren't perfect we all have our crutches right?)
So we all started talking about the price of gas and my friend said her hubby has a Suburban and it cost $100 to fill it up. I almost passed out.
That's when I said "well I fill up every 2 weeks and Dominic rides his bike to work I cant tell you the last time we put gas in that car and Derek and I have been riding to school" and I got the look like I was just crazy and well maybe I am. But I just think this whole gas business is just crazy.
So next week is ride your bike to work week. I know it's not an option for everyone for sure but maybe you could walk or commute or limit the amount of "running around " after work or during lunch or after work or on the weekends. Get creative. Find another way to do what you do with out your car. I am gonna try really, really hard to figure out a way to leave the car parked more than I normally do.

There are two ways to approach this problem. One is to lover the bottom line, the other is to raise the top line.
I work from home, so I do not have to commute - that's the bottom line. Also, I drive a car which makes about 36mpg if I go to Pleasanton or Frisco (though it's much worse around Tracy, because it's not a hybrid).
But that's not the only way. You can also get wealthier and thus the make the gas less expensive for you. Overall, Americans pay a much smaller fraction of their incomes for gas now than in 1950s, athough the price of gas has increased - even when counted in inflation-adjusted dollars. How do you get wealthier? I suppose it's too big a question for a blog comment.
