I am the momma and I am right.

Joseph hasnt had therapy in nearly 4 weeks. Today we were well enough to go. He had a new therapist he seemed to really like and he worked hard and stayed focused.
His OT asked me about his night time brace and daytime hand splint, I told her I dont like them they limit his mobility and that is not what he needs. She sighed a little. Yes I know she has the fancy degree not me (not yet damn homework) So I showed her. Yes she agreed. She almost said "youre right" but stopped herself short.
Then she asked about the night time one and I showed her how it was making his hand rest in a funny shape. She didnt even question me. She put it on, saw it for herself and said she has never had a parent catch that.

So on to the PT. She asked about his new shoes. She asked about his braces and I said I havent been putting them on. They fatigue him, they making walking harder for him I leave them off. She looked at his feet and his ankles and said she would be ok with that as long as we used them when he was going to be walking a lot for support. I said that Dom and I disagree on that. I think when we are walking for long periods of times the braces limit his mobility and fatigue him. She watched him walk across the room and said "ok I'll agree with that"
HA!
Two slam dunks for me!
I want to do what is best for him. Better to wear braces at 3 then at 13 when life can be rough for anyone. But studies I have read are showing that the AFO's he's wearing dont always show long lasting corrections just short term and that is not what I am looking for.

Oh and the hockey he's been playing is actually helping his hand .
Every now and then you need to hear you're doing something right.
