The Meeting

So we went and met with Derek's teacher. So not what we were ready for.

His teacher said he's basic above average. He's frustrated. He cant get his hands to write all the thoughts that are in his head. He's frustrated with the kids in his class that dont get it as quick as he does. He's a great thinker. He needs to be centered and aligned for his future.
He needs to work on his spelling and his handwriting but it's just that his brain is moving too fast for his motor skills.

I think her frustration level comes from him not always applying himself and worrying himself sick about things and losing focus.

We left thinking that we had this very precious clay we needed to preserve more so than we ever thought before.

We have a plan now for middle school and high school and a few other things lined up and ready.

She's all business. All schedule and form. But I can see what needs to be done to help him and how to relate to her better and right now that is all that matters. We can learn a lot from this woman and after talking to her in many ways she really knows our son in many of the same ways that we know him. And she agreed with most of what we are doing with him and for him.

Every now and then you get a Good Job mom and dad day. Today might have been one of those. On the other hand it was made very clear to me he is very full of so much we cant let it get misguided or burnt out.

As "smart" as he is and so full of big thoughts and big words, the other son well he's just full of sports. His therapist today asked if he ever stopped. No he doesnt. When he does slow down he just goes to sleep. It's on or off no other setting.

These boys of mine. I love them so very very much.
