Kindergarten

We have been working with Joseph's teachers and therapists and his whole "team" the past few weeks and it had been decided that he would transition over to kindergarten. For a few hours each day he will go into the kindergarten class to see how well he would do and if going to a mainstream kindergarten was an option for next year or if we needed to look at other options. We felt that maybe this few hours each day for these last months of this school year might be just what he needs to insure success next year.

We made sure everyone knew the new schedule and the what was going to happen when. We talked it up BIG time to Joseph he was going to make new friends and have a great teacher (she's amazing) and then go back to Ms Monica's classroom for the end of the day activities. We covered it all.

Except... no one prepared the momma for her baby boy to walk down the hallway to the big classroom.
No one prepared the momma for him to just say "Bye mom" and walk off with his favorite aid who will stay with him in the big classroom till he feels ok with it all. But no one walked me back to the car.
No one said "hey your little boy is going to kindergarten today get ready" it was taken off like a big band-aid. Ouch.
He did fine. He got a little overwhelemed at times but no full blown crying or anything and he says he had big fun and wants to go again and again he says.
I did ok. I got a little weepy too but no full blown crying.
I guess we can do it again tomorrow.

When I walked Kyle to Kdg, my husband had to pull me to the car bawling the whole way. I think that is just the mom's way of sending her kid to kdg. Kyle, of course, was just fine.
