Have you ever had the pleasure of having someone come to your home, notebook ready and interview you and your child? Yes you will be scored. Yes this is a test.
So the fateful day arrived and we got the findings from this report. A room of eight people sat around and talked about Joseph. Two of them didn't even know what he looked like and called him Joe half the time.
After going thru the reports quickly we planned the next year of his life and two hours later called it a day.
I gave Dominic the reports to read. I was done with them I didn't care to go there again.
He pointed out to me that one report said
"Joseph's adjustment to preschool away from his very attentive parents may be stressful."
I was shocked. It stung.
The psychologist said he was "about average" again shocked.
To me he is amazing. To us he is not average. But I forget he is functioning missing a half dollar size of his brain. There it is.
I forget sometimes that most people on my block, most people I know have never had such reports done on their children. And I guess being called "very attentive" is better than being called "neglecting". I guess being "average" is better than "below average"
I guess saying "it could be worse" is the only silver lining I get right now. I'll take it but I am not satisfied. I will not sit and let it be that.

Since we homeschool, we are members of HSLDA, naturally. And the guidelines of HSLDA are very clear: do not let state workers anywhere near your child, no matter how nice the deal may sound, or what kind of arm-twisting they apply. And with a good reason, I may add.
BTW, there's a joke among pilots. A person approaches a pilot at the ramp, and says: "I am from the FAA and I am here to help you." *rimshot*
I hate these "meetings". It is always my hugest gall that someone who doesn't know your child, or at least not very well, can tell you ALL about your child.
Attentive is MUCH better than neglectful. I'm sure they will be saying the same thing about me shortly, or maybe possessed even :)
Good luck with your garage sale!
