I just shouldnt say this. My sons teacher is a witch.
Here is is the week of Halloween. No party she' s not lifting a finger (even a crocked green one) they have early days all week long and she gave them an extra large homework packet.
Derek was so upset he thought he wasnt going to be able to go Trick or Treating.
I understand if she views it as a holiday she does not believe in or celebrate but I think she needs to respect that others do.
That is what I want Derek to learn from this. We can embrace and respect others views and that doesnt make us or them wrong. Right. Just different. So I told him we arent touching that packet till Wednesday I dont care. She can deal with me if she'd like.

Since Im going to "teacher school" I thought I'd give you the perspective tought to us teachers:
Many Christians stopped participating in Halloween because of the pagan issues, therefore if you choose to have a halloween party, you will more than likely receive hell fury from at least one parent, who refuses to let their child participate. By eliminating the party all together, it also eliminates that problem. Also, once sugared up, the students will not do anything except bounce off of the walls. Keep in mind that because of the idiot President those same Christians put into office, the teachers are required to teach the 9 million state standards and must provide results, therefore limiting "fun" stuff that we remember from school.
I am a Christian and my children will be trick-or-treating, so I am not one of those people, Im always up for a party, but I just thought I'd share a different perspective. I don't know anything about the teacher, but I will say this: Schools, districts and government make it VERY difficult to be a teacher and there is a lot more to school now than fingerpainting and times tables. If she didn't love teaching, she wouldn't be there because trust me, there is no other reason to do it.
One other thing, this might be a good time to teach Derek that life isn't always going to have parties when you expect them.
Sorry for the downer...I'll go eat a Snickers now!
Here's my quick thought or perspective---
I am room mom for the oldest in second grade. We are doing a fall themed station fun thing for a grand total of 45 minutes BUT it will be fun, there will be no Halloween connotation and the 'stuff' we have planned is all based around SOL's. The only thing that doesn't have to do with SOL's is decorating the cupcakes at the end of the timed period. I'm not knocking it, at least they get to have some fun but it will be structured fun at that. Better than nothing. And I agree, there are LOTS of restrictions put on teachers, I could tell she was really marking her words and wanted to say more when we met about this but I"m sure her hands are tied so she does what she can do. I think things are FAR more stringent these days than the days of old. It's now the world we live in. And there was one child who is allergic to chocolate so NONE of the cupcakes could be chocolate, we conceded for ONE child and they will all be vanilla, but again, at least they'll have them. The teacher said to keep things as far away from Halloween as possible so the plates I got and cups I got had to be "fall" and not even a black cat etc....
To put MY own spin on things, I sent the oldest to school today with a black shirt that has a glowing pumpkin/jacolantern face on it. And there you have it. I conform when I have to but my goodness, a kids gotta have fun. I see both sides. Sad, but it's where we are today. What can you do?
