This makes me steamy mad! We are still waiting for our tax return and they tell us this is why.
Incarceration was no barrier to the prison inmates who successfully claimed $9.1 million worth of fraudulent first-time homebuyer credits from the Internal Revenue Service in 2009, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration audit released June 23.
Home buyers who bought a house for the first time between April 8, 2008 and April 30, 2010 can take advantage of federal incentives such as interest free loans or an outright tax refund. While imprisonment isn't an automatic disqualification for the homebuyer credit, TIGTA statistical analysis finds that the IRS allowed at least 1,295 prisoners to gain a tax credit in their 2008 tax returns despite being in the gaol during the time in which they allegedly purchased houses.

Iam sure if we owed the IRS they would be harassing us. So when I call them they tell me "You don't need to call every week" oh yes, yes I do indeed. Grrr. Here we are still waiting. We processed our tax return online in February and are due a refund of $1600 and they tell us to wait 6 more weeks. They said they had to hand process everyone that got that homebuyers credit well I have cousins that got the credit and they got their returns just fine. Why does nothing go smoothly for us?

Ah, you are not the only ones caught up in this ugly IRS mess with the first homebuyers credit. I have another friend who had to send in his hardcopy W-2 after he had filed electronically AND was sent a letter that his refund was approved. He too has to wait 6 to 8 weeks for a credit that he was already told was coming. Government. Gotta love it....NOT!
