Very Helpful.

There are some wonderful organizations in this county. I don't think a lot of people know they are there sadly until you need them.
Last semester I had to memorize the ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association) code of ethics. Part of the code states that my job is to help others be aware of the services we SLP's and SLPA's provide. I got that. I am good.

So.. we have known that Joseph has Cerebral Palsy for years now. I have known about various services in our area and have been very happy with the level of care and service we have been provided with. It seems every year I get wiser and that's a good thing.
United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin county has been a rescource I have failed to tap into. I felt that with our highly functioning son their services really were for others who needed it more. How wrong was i?

Let me back up a bit.... Joseph uses a key board at school for writing. It's a great tool (and it makes his brother crazy that Joseph gets to use one and he does not. Joseph even said "You can take it to school today Derek if you want?" and Derek said "Can I?" and I had to poo poo the whole thing but it was sweet of Joe to offer)
where was I? Oh yes the key board. It's very user friendly and simple to operate but the issue is Joe is still learning to spell these words while he's looking for the correct letters on the keyboard. So while the keyboard helps his writing be more legible it has not increased his speed at all, in fact it's slowing him down. Ho hum.

So my husband my smarter half , sends an email to CP of San Joaquin county. Within 24 hours we get 3 responses and some great information. I was so impressed and so pleased with the help. So we are looking at some keyboards designed for one handed typing and some programs as well to help learn to type with one hand. if that is what they do for us, I can not even imagine what they do for others.

I know I often ask for spare pennies for Shriners but could you set aside a few for CP of San Joaquin county too? Thanks.
